With the advent of Quantum Physics a radical new way of looking at how the physical world operates has emerged. Many of the observations made by the key players in this area of study are reminiscent of the teachings of Vedanta philosophy. This session will explore this relationship. John Kinio has been a student at the School of Philosophy for over 20 years. Currently, John tutors courses in Practical Philosophy, Sanskrit, and Quantum Physics

C. THE SOCRATIC WAY OF LIFE (2:30 pm – 3:30 pm) Presenter: Antonio Leyva Great historic figures and leaders such as Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Teresa of Avila, Jesus Christ, Malcolm X, St. Paul, the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, Myrtle Fillmore, the Buddha, and Martin Luther King Jr. all led profoundly Socratic lives. Series of 8 classes about recent and older discoveries in Physics and their philosophical implications. Quantum Physics specifically is not well understood. Some of its predictions -when examined more closely- run very much counter to "common sense" and are apparently bizarre. However, these are philosophically significant- if the predictions are true. The objective of these classes is to look more deeply at this subject and search for a deeper understanding. Some of the main topics include:
- Summary of the history of discoveries in physics and science which have lead to the present situation and why the radical shift in paradigm was necessary to make sense of it all.
- Wave Particle Duality - What is the ultimate reality behind light and matter?
- The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle - the consciousness of the observer seems to intrude into to the physical world, a fact which was completely insignificant in the previous Newtonian view. What does it mean?
- The Schroedinger Wave Equation - This apparently abstract mathematical creation has a very intimate connection with our everyday physical world. What is its significance?
- Quantum Entanglement - The ultimate connectedness of all matter - Einstein was a great skeptic about this and used all his intellect to argue against it, but the predictions of quantum physics triumphed and proved him wrong.Starts January 30, 2012 7:00 pmSchool of Philosophy,

The History of Ancient Indian Philosophy covers the mysterious cosmic nature religion of the early civilization of the Indus and the rise of an inner spirituality; the Aryan migrations and the overwhelming importance of fire sacrifice to a society dominated by warriors and priests; the social revolution that led to the abandonment of the traditional sacrifice by a large portion of the population known as renunciates, the wandering holy men who internalized the old fire sacrifice as meditation by following the ancient, indigenous traditions of the forest; the emergence of Vedic Hinduism, Buddhism and Jain belief from that social and spiritual revolution; and finally the brilliant refinement of Hindu Vedic ideas in the face of invasion, war, political upheaval and sectarian rivalry. In the end, the story of a way of life and system of belief shaped by, and in spite of, overwhelming adversity.
